Upgrade to IFS Applications App 10 at Odfjell Drilling

Odfjell Drilling is an international drilling, well service and engineering company listed on Oslo Stock Exchange with 2500 employees. Odfjell Drilling was founded in 1973 but the maritime roots go back to 1914 and the petroleum engagement back to the mid sixties.

Project background and objectives

The company wanted to move to a standardized solution as part of its IT strategy. A large number of modifications were targeted to be replaced with standard functionality, with increased flexibility to take on improvement initiatives. This would also reduce the cost of maintaining customized code and allow for quicker and more agile updates of the system. Following a pre-study of the current solution, the company decided to start a project to update IFS Applications from version 8 to version 10 with the goal to put in place a platform that would prepare them for the future.

Approach, deliverables and value for the customer

Akselera was hired to assist the customer in contract negotiations, project planning, and day-to-day management of the project. The project team included members from business areas and companies across the group as well as external vendors IFS and Addovation. The Akselera team consisted of experienced ERP advisors and experts in areas such as cut-over planning and data migration. The project was managed in close cooperation with Odfjell Technology, IFS, and Addovation, utilizing the IFS implementation methodology. The value for Odfjell Technology has been in securing a successful outcome of a project that was conducted with limitations in travel and ways of working partly due to the pandemic. Akselera’s experience with handling complex projects was key in achieving this.

“Akselera was a key player in getting the new ERP platform in place for Odfjell Technology. We are now ready to start rolling out more companies and prepared for future inititatives” – Jone Torstensen, CFO
